"Here you go Tay. I'm sorry about that," I told him and handed him a bag from the store.
He smiled at me. "I'll use the food for Jennifer anyway. Don't worry." I still can't figure out why he named it after me!
"Well, that was only meant as a way of helping out since I noticed you needed more." I looked over at my desk where Jennifer's cage sat. The little mouse stuck her nose out through one of the air holes.
"Oooooooooooh! Kissy kissy! I see my little love bird theory was true!" Ike teased us from the entrance of my room. He leaned comfortably against the door.
"Jennifer and Taylor, sittin' in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g! First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Taylor touring with the baby carriage," Zac came in singing.
"Shut up Zac! You don't want me singing the same thing about you and Samantha do you?" Zac stopped singing and laughing and froze at that remark. I laughed. Zac might not like it, but my sister would have! That's for sure!
I turned back to Mr. Wonderful. "Well, are you going to open it now?" I asked him.
"Oh, yea." Tay opened the bag and pulled out a small box. He placed the bag on my bag and studdied the box. "What's in it?" he asked curiously.
"That's the whole point of it being in a box, Tay."
He lifted up the flap and pulled out all the tissue paper until he found the small gift I burried in it. "Oh cool! How much was this?" he asked and lifted up the small choker to add to his collection. It was a small, gold, sun charm on a short, black necklace. It was split in half like a friendship necklace.
"Do you like it?" I asked him.
"Of course I do!"
I reached into a pocket in my blue jeans and pulled out the other half. I was over-glad that he actually liked it.
"Turn it over," I told him. He twisted it in his hands. On the back the initials "TH" were inscribed on it. I placed my charm up against his. Together they formed a full sun. On the back of mine were the initials "JS." They were my initials.
He smiled. "You know the rutein. I have one, you have one..." He nodded and smiled. I hoped it wasn't too early to give him something like this. I really liked him a lot though!
"Happy Heart Day, Taylor."
I hugged him. "Ditto," he told me and placed the choker around his neck with his others.
Ike snickered and Zac laughed. "Oh, go ahead and laugh you two! You're the ones without a sweet girl like Jen."
I smiled. He was only trying to make me laugh. I knew that, but he also made Ike and Zac very jealous.
"Well, ex-cuse me! I just haven't seen one yet!" Ike growled and stomped out.
Zac followed him out and up the stairs. Tay and I were silent for a minute. "Well, you know, I've got to go have lunch now. I haven't eaten yet," Taylor said shyly.
"Yea," I told him and waited for him to leave.
When Taylor didn't move, I figured I knew what was going on. He was still speechless. "So... are you going to go upstairs now?"
"Uh.. I guess."
"Uh-huh... so, are you going?"
"Yea, I guess I should," he said, but barely took more than two steps. "Okay, I'll go eat lunch now."
"Yes, you go eat lunch."
"Okay."
"Yea."
"I'm going now..."
"Bye.."
"Bye.." he said and finally left. Mr. Shy all of a sudden huh? I laughed to myself and hung my half of the choker around my neck. I'm soooooo glad he liked it and I'm just sooooooo glad I didn't just make a fool of myself! I felt relieved and happy. Also loved. I just wished the suspense of 'if he loved me enough' would go away!
